Strange day - actor Vishnuvardhan from Bangalore died. And there were RIOTS!

So we were not able to go see the botanical gardens as planned. Drove around and saw the government building instead!

Turns out the riots are because government employees were given a day off - and not the ordinary people.

OK - so now we have accomplished half the trip.

We have gone by 3rd class sleeper train from Delhi to Bodhgaya - incl. complimentary cockroaches and mice. Good Food though on train!

We have been SHOCKED at the poverty at Gaya junction (railway station) and the DIRT!

We have been scared to be stuck in the country side in Bihar - feeling certain we were going to get robbed if we did not get out before dark... which we did.

We have seen the beautiful mountains of Rajgir, where King Birmbasa (???) met with the Buddha. We have seen a small motorcycle accident, we have tried to appease the beggars (to no avail). We have seen AIR-DRESSED (ie NUDE) Jainists, walking a pilgrimage.

We have gone numerous times around the stupa (and done lots of prostrations on a monk's prostration board), the ladies have bought thousands of tibetan handicraft jewelry, I have bought malas and some stuff for Ulrika who is going into retreat.

We have heard teachings, I have met Beru K., we have had newyears dinner with swedish-vietnamese monks and laypeople, we have met Geshe Thinlay, and Jampa - Tenzin's friend.

We have seen Nalanda. We have seen cow-dung-manufacturing ladies who paste the dung on the walls to dry… We have seen 10 months babies sitting nude on the ground in the streets.

Then seen 5 dead bodies (incl. one "road-kill" - a dead lady on the road to Varanasi, her motorbike burning), two elephants and numerous monkeys.

We have seen "crazy" sadhus in white praising the sun half naked. We have seen the BULL SHIT (yes and COW-shit) in the alleys of old horrid Varanasi. We have been appalled by the dirt and the smoke, and been amazed at the kindness of the people (at large - excepting the very insisting beggars and sales people).

We all have had colds (except Ingrid T and August) and some of us have had or have YALLAH!

(not the Ingrids). We have frozen our toes off on the river Ganga at 6.15 in the morning - I kid you not - no more than 4-5 degrees and the Indians are SWIMMING SINGING LOUDLY whilst doing it (at least some).

Tomorrow is OFF - nothing at all, except shopping in mall and lying by a dirty pool.

Then the flight down to Bengaluru (Bangalore)...
